Dare to be Square! (But I will provide you with a rectangular format, if you prefer...)

Maybe there is a special frame you need to fill or a space on your wall that needs it? No  problem - I will provide you with your custom print.

However, I feel that there is something simple and elegant about four sides to the middle. It doesn't matter if it is colour or black and white to me; I mainly love the square shape. It's static and calm. I think it has a fundamental energy that is more pleasing to the eye and a stable format which is capable of showing you in your best light.

It was during my college years that I came to be inspired by this style, when I was thrown into my medium format frenzy.  Quite quickly I discovered and felI in love with 6x6 negatives and waist-level viewing. I parked the camera on a tripod, looked down onto the ground glass, and evaluated the composition as though I were looking at a finished photo.

A square picture is a created object and not just a post card view. We can fill the frame or play with empty spaces much more effectively.  It showcases my signature style perfectly. Simple and clean, with the focus on those precious little faces.

Square images have a quality unlike the conventional rectangular or panoramic format and your images should celebrate this form. Four even sides. Certainly the modern art painting world has embraced square images enthusiastically - it's just as common as rectangular images. That said, there is a reluctance by many photographers to print square. Seeing in this shape presents its challenges and so too does the framing process, but I think you will find it will be worth it!
